Morgan Vs Edinburgh Uni 2nds

Sunday saw the Edinburgh University girls make their first trip to Alloway of the season in an eagerly anticipated fixture with Morgan hoping to build on the victory over Grangemouth the previous week and the Uni hoping do bounce back from “a bit of a doing” by Oban.

The match started off as Morgan had finished the week before with some poor handling errors and some missed passes but never the less the Black and Gold soon found themselves on a breakaway with the ball being passed out to Winger FORKES who expertly grounded the ball for the first score of the match, new kicker MACDONALD slotted the ball home between the posts to take it to 7-0 in favour of the home side.

Shortly after it was MACDONALD herself who took the ball across the line, after some persistent running from MCLEOD set her up she evaded 2 tackles before grounding to extend the Morgan lead.
Morgan settled into the game and some back and forth play meant Edinburgh could get back into the game a little which temporarily scuppered Morgan’s hopes of a bonus point victory. Shortly before the half time whistle though, VAN SCHELVEN secured a brace of tries, demonstrating some excellent running and special awareness helped along by some excellent communication.

Half Time: Morgan 22 Edin Uni 0

Shortly after half time Morgan appeared to switch off for 5 minutes allowing Edinburgh to pick up from the back of a ruck and run in unopposed to get their first score of the season, one which Morgan shouldn’t have allowed.

It wasn’t long before the side switched back on (perhaps due to a post try rant from the coach) and they were back into their stride for the first of seven second half tries. The ball found its way to DAVIDSON at full back who showed lightening pace to take the ball past the majority of the Edinburgh back line to score her first of the season. Again the backs came to life shortly after and new winger WILSON found herself with a gap which she exploited expertly to cross the line for her first.
Shortly after came a spell of dominance from the Morgan pack, with MCLEOD,CESSFORD,BERTRAM and ALLEN all crossing the line to put the game to bed.

MACDONALD again struck between the posts with the boot to take it to 59-5 only for morgan to switch off right at the death to allow Edinburgh their second try of the season.

Final Score: Morgan 59 Edin Uni 10

Again it was an excellent performance by the whole side with communication improving although the main downfall being the sometimes "frantic" play forcing too many errors from the side, something that will have to be rectified before the Madras and Broughton games.
